Annual Security & Fire Safety Report Available

Dear Members of the University of Michigan Community,
Your safety matters. At DPSS, our commitment is to continually strengthen safety through prevention, education, collaboration, and transparency, ensuring the most secure environment possible for all community members. We are proud that, despite the size and complexity of our campus—with tens of thousands of students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors present each day—U-M continues to be a place where people can live, learn, work, and thrive.
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act), DPSS has published the 2025 Annual Security & Fire Safety Report (ASFSR). This report provides a transparent overview of crime statistics and fire safety data for the Ann Arbor campus from 2024, 2023, and 2022. It also highlights important policies, procedures, and safety resources available to the community.
I’d like to take this opportunity to remind us all that safety is a shared responsibility. With this in mind, DPSS respectfully asks our community to:
- Be emergency ready. Sign up for U-M Emergency Alerts to receive timely, critical updates and download the DPSS Public Safety App.
- Promptly report crimes, concerns, or suspicious activity. We urge community members to promptly report crimes, concerns, or incidents so they can be properly investigated and addressed.
- Get involved with educational outreach. DPSS provides training, programs, and resources to help empower individuals with knowledge and skills to stay safe.
- Lean into community partnerships. Our staff is here to help. We work closely with units across campus to create a secure and supportive environment for everyone. Our shared goal is always to connect with each community member and to address any safety needs you may have.
- Share feedback. Whether a compliment or concern, your feedback helps us continuously improve.
We encourage you to review the report and stay informed about the available resources and programs. Through awareness and action, we can continue to make Michigan a place where safety and community thrive.
DPSS is here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. For questions about the report, please contact Clery-Act-Compliance@umich.edu.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our campus safe.
In safety and community,
Richard Arnold
