Purple Run returns to benefit SafeHouse Center

As the Division of Public Safety and Security Special Victims Unit celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, its longstanding support of SafeHouse Center continues with this year’s Purple Run on Saturday, October 11.
The 11th annual event is hosted by the U-M DPSS, Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office and supported by Ann Arbor Police Department.
“We are once again excited to co-host this great event benefiting the SafeHouse Center for the eleventh year,” said Chief Crystal James, University of Michigan Police Department. “It’s something our division is proud to be a part of, and we look forward to promoting such a wonderful organization helping survivors in our community, and bringing awareness to the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault.”
By offering free and confidential services, SafeHouse Center strives to help all survivors and their families who live, work, or were victimized in Washtenaw County.
“SafeHouse Center is deeply grateful for the Purple Run and the powerful partnerships that make it possible,” said Christine Watson, Executive Director. “This event is a shining example of our community coming together in solidarity with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The dedication of the organizers and participants not only raises critical funds, but also builds awareness and hope, showing survivors that they are not alone and that our community stands with them.”
Watson says the Purple Run is important because on top of being a fundraiser for the center, it also provides an opportunity for them to engage our community and highlight the impact of domestic violence and show survivors that we care.
Last year, nearly 300 participants attended the event to support the organization's continued work throughout the community.
Registration for the event is open until 9:00 am the morning of the event, with online registration ending at midnight on October 10. Participants who register before October 1 will receive a race t-shirt and a race medal.
The run starts and ends at the Duderstadt Center. Registration is $35 for adults, $30 for students, and free for children 12 and under.
