Scam Alert

The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) is warning the community about scammers impersonating DPSS or police officers and demanding money.

These scams may come by phone, email, or text. Scammers may claim you owe money, ask for gift cards or electronic payments, or threaten arrest if you do not pay.

DPSS will never contact you and demand money or payment.

If someone contacts you claiming to represent DPSS or the University of Michigan Police Department and you are unsure whether the communication is legitimate, do not send money or provide personal or financial information.

Instead, contact the DPSS Dispatch Center directly at 734-763-1131 and select option 1 to verify the communication.

When in doubt, stop and verify before taking action.
