Registering Property FAQs

Why should I register my property?

Registering your property proves ownership! Displaying registration stickers deters theft. Plus, if someone turns in your registered property as lost and found or it’s recovered, staff can return it to you.

What kind of property can I register?

A bike, scooter, laptop, cell phone, other electronic devices, and more—anything with a serial number!

How does the property registration service work?

After you register your property, DPSS will mail you two stickers:

  • The first sticker notifies potential thieves that DPSS has registered your property. These theft prevention stickers should be visible on your property. If thieves see that your property is registered, they will be less likely to steal it.
  • The second sticker lists your registration number. Place this sticker in a more obscure location on your property. This sticker is intentionally challenging to remove.
What if someone steals my registered property?

To report the theft of property on campus, call DPSS at (734) 763-1131 or report a crime online.
