About Us

Our Services

DPS provides complete law enforcement services to the campus. Our police officers are licensed by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and authorized to enforce all federal, state, and local laws, and rules of the University of Michigan. Our officers are also deputized by Genesee County. Our officers are well-trained in services unique to an academic institution. We are dedicated to the community policing philosophy as a way of delivering police services to our campus community.

Our Approach

At the Department of Public Safety (DPS), we do more than just respond to crimes once they happen. Prevention and education are just as important when it comes to keeping our community safe. That’s why we provide a comprehensive online directory of safety tips, presentations, and in-person training programs. These resources are designed to empower the UM-Flint community to take a proactive approach to their own safety. Together we are building a culture of preparedness.
