What is a Security Assessment?
The DPSS Security Assessment team offers consultations to help you understand your space's current security state. We provide guidance on crime deterrence, prevention planning, and ensuring security measures are in place.
Our assessments cover various spaces, from small-scale to larger projects. We evaluate new and existing buildings, construction sites, redesigned spaces, and specialized or critical infrastructure.

What Is a recommendation?
Understanding your space's current state and future needs is key to building an effective security plan. We provide recommendations that are compatible with your space's safety and security needs.
A sample of the types of recommendations may include:
- Changes or updates to internal policy and procedure
- Improving building security
- Adding access control measures
- Other physical security measures include cameras, card readers, locks, etc.
We also offer further guidance or coordinate internal referrals, which helps implement the new recommendations for physical security, emergency planning, or specialized training.
Do I need an assessment?
Assessment staff conduct security assessments for U-M facilities, buildings, and departments.
